This page explains what happens to your data when you visit cross-shore.com. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past. If anything here is unclear, please get in touch.
Who runs this site
cross-shore.com is published by Cross Shore LLC (Cross Shore合同会社), a company registered in Kanagawa, Japan, and written by its founder, Wataru Otsubo. You can read more about the site and why it exists.

What we collect
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not run a mailing list. The data that reaches us falls into three groups.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and where readers come from. This records things like the pages you view, roughly how long you stay, the approximate location derived from your IP address, your device type and browser, and the site or search that sent you here. It is aggregated: we do not see who you are, and we do not try to find out.
Comments. If you leave a comment, the form stores the name, email address and any website you enter, along with your IP address and browser string. This is standard WordPress behaviour and exists to help catch spam. Your email address is never published and never sold.
Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs, which include IP addresses. We do not use these for anything except diagnosing problems and blocking abuse.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser so it can tell a returning visit from a new one. WordPress may set a cookie if you leave a comment, so the form remembers your details next time.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.
We do not currently show a cookie consent banner. We are saying that plainly rather than hiding it. If you are in a region where you would expect one, you can block analytics cookies in your browser or use an ad blocker, and the site will behave normally.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to buy something, the company may pay us a commission. It never costs you more.
When you click an affiliate link you leave this site, and the destination company’s own privacy policy takes over. They will usually set a cookie so they can tell that you arrived from here. We do not receive your name, your email address or your payment details — only, at most, an anonymous notification that a referral converted.
Affiliate links are marked with rel="sponsored" and every article that contains one says so at the top. We only link to services we use ourselves, and we write about the parts we did not like as well as the parts we did.
Third parties who see something
- Google — Analytics and Search Console. Google’s privacy policy.
- Affiliate partners — currently SafetyWing and Wise. They see the click, not you.
- Pinterest — if you arrive from a pin, Pinterest knows you clicked it. We do not run Pinterest tracking code on this site.
- Our hosting provider — server logs, as above.
We do not sell data to anybody, and we have no advertising network on this site.
How long we keep it
Analytics data is retained for the period configured in Google Analytics and is then deleted automatically. Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up replies make sense — but you can ask us to delete yours at any time and we will.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what data we hold about you and ask us to delete it. Email info@cross-shore.com and we will respond. If you are in the EU or UK, this includes your rights under the GDPR; if you are in California, it includes your rights under the CCPA. We do not need a formal legal request — just ask.
Children
This site is written for adults planning a move abroad. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If we add something that changes what is collected — a newsletter, for instance — we will update this page and change the date below.
